Pushing the limits – Fabian Peitzmeier in an interview
For the first time ever, Formel D will appear as a sponsor at the 24-hour Nürburgring race. The service provider will support the Nexen Tire Motorsport Team, lead by driver Fabian Peitzmeier, the second chapter in the partnership between Formel D and Peitzmeier.
In 2016, the 20-year-old received a scholarship from the company as part of his engineering program at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. Before his second try at the “Grüne Hölle,” he discusses in an interview his outlook on the race.
Mr. Peitzmeier, have you set yourself a concrete goal for the race?
Of course, my teammates Ralf Zensen, Steven Fürsch, Jürgen Bretschneider and I want to cross the finish line like we did last year. That’d be a win in itself. We’re racing in the new Porsche 718 Cayman S with turbo engine for the first time, and don’t have much experience with the model over long distances. Since we’re pioneering to a certain extent, we’ll refrain from making any other predictions.
What is the greatest challenge in a 24-hour race?
It’s all about pushing the limits of the car – and your own limits – over a long distance. Handling the risk and proactive driving are key. Being totally spent after just two hours doesn’t help anyone.
As a driver, is it possible to get some sleep despite all the action and noise going on around you?
It’s important to get a few hours of sleep and rest a bit. Normally, at some point you are so tired and running on empty that you fall asleep.
Mr. Peitzmeier, good luck, we’re crossing our fingers for you!
